Science Demonstration: Tectonic Plates

How long?

We are learning to use non-standard units (ordinary objects) to measure items in the classroom. Today we used interlocking blocks to make measuring sticks.

We found that HongXuan is more blocks high than William. Simi and Yangyang worked hard to measure together without breaking their measuring stick, and Yangyang discovered she could measure the height of Grisha’s leg in blocks.

Leesha and Penaia found the doorway was 77 blocks wide. William, Iversyn and Lincoln were a great team measuring the wall.

Sebastian and Madina investigated the height and length of items on the door.

Eva, Grisha and Judah found some items that were longer and shorter than their measuring sticks.

HongXuan and Sara worked together to measure the length of the table, HongXuan also measured it in ice block sticks - there were more blocks than ice block sticks.

It was a great way to end Maths Week!

Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together

Over the last two weeks, we have been thinking about the Olympic motto: Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together

We had sprinting races and thought about how sprinting makes our bodies feel, what we could see and hear and how to add these ideas to our writing. We also learned about 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and gold, silver and bronze medals.

We wrote similes about how high we can jump and how strong we are compared to other objects/creatures/people.

Check out our amazing writing!

100 Days of School!

From the beginning of the year we have been counting each day we are at school and today was our celebration day because we have made it to 100 days at school!

We discussed all the things we can do now compared to the start of the year. Some children are more confident with homework, some help around home more, others can run faster, build taller towers, write more words or know how to count on more numbers. Such a lot of progress!

We made special necklaces by skip counting beads in 10s. This was a tricky skill to master, everyone threaded on groups of 10 beads at a time and some children made it all the way to 100 beads, wow!

At the end of the day, like the medal presentations we have seen at the Olympics, Mrs Kirby presented the necklaces, shook hands with everyone and said, “Well done on your fantastic 100 days of learning!”

Bike and Scooter Day Reminder

Bike Safety

This week we are learning about bike and scooter safety, and looking forward to bringing our bikes and scooters to school on Wednesday!

Today we looked at the parts of a bike, how they work and discussed ways we can keep safe while on our bikes.

Mrs Kirby brought in a bike for us to look at closely and create an observational drawing of using art pencils. Check out our amazing work and knowledge about bike safety!

Cats in Hats

We have been learning to hear, read and write words ending in 'at'.

We read The Cat in the Hat and The Cat in the Hat Returns by Dr Seuss, and used a variety of lines to draw him - don't they look fantastic!
